Are My Activities Restricted After a Hair Transplant? Post Surgery Precautions

Post-Hair Transplant Instructions
What can I do or not do after my hair transplant. Instructions for after your hair transplant surgery.
The biggest restrictions after a transplant involve no heavy physical activity for five to seven days. This is usually the most contested instruction, as most people feel fine after the procedure. Nevertheless, the first place that gets robbed of circulation when you’re active is the skin and scalp. Blood gets diverted to the muscles; blood pressure rises, and people bang their transplanted area. Any surgery, even minor, requires rest after the procedure, a hair transplant is no different. Take it easy post-op, it will benefit you in a few months when your hair starts to grow.
Can I drink alcohol after a hair transplant? How long should I wait before drinking? 48 hours is the rule after all hair transplants. Don’t drink alcohol or take aspirin for forty-eight hours, drinking alcohol thins your blood. This may result in oozing from the transplant sites or donor area after your surgery.
Postoperative medicines are prescribed, and in some cases, such as with tetracycline and/or minoxidil with Retin A, they can restrict your ability to go out in direct sunlight.
Do not pick at the scabs – let them fall off. Extreme care must be exerted so that your comb or brush does not catch on the scabs during the healing process. You may shampoo your hair on the third day. While shampooing, use only your fingertips. Vitamin E oil can be applied at night to help promote healing after two weeks.
Promote Faster Healing After Surgery
You can generally return to work in two or three days, but if the work requires heavy lifting, accommodations should be made.
You should not smoke for 7-10 days before and after a hair transplant. Smoking robs the blood of oxygen. Hair transplants use your blood to heal and grow and although the scalp has a tremendous blood supply, smoking cessation is still indicated. This precaution is usually met with noncompliance because the vast majority of smokers who continue to smoke through the surgical process don’t experience any problems as far as healing or growth. Nevertheless it is contraindicated.
In my experience, at the end of seven to ten days, there are no further restrictions. The patients can resume all their prior activities in full. Now begins the waiting game, but rest assured, if your procedure was performed by a competent surgeon and you’ve followed his instructions, your hair will grow.

i recently had my 2nd session after 3 yrs, it was quite painful than the 1st , as due to previous the donor area skin becomes stiff & a bit less elastic, but the results and change in ur looks worth sch pain, if u realy need !
I like this so much. thanks for posting very helpful transplant information here.
Can I go to the beach after my hair transplant? thanks
Yes, the salt water is actually good for the grafts. If the sun is very strong wear a hat or keep your head in the shade. During the transplant some nerve endings were transected, they will regenerate, but right after surgery you may not feel the sensation of your scalp getting sun burnt.
How long should I wait to color my hair after my transplant?
Usually I recommend coloring hair right before the surgery because you should wait about 3 weeks to color your hair post-op.
I have been wearing my hat almost 24 hours a day after my hair transplant is that ok for the grafts?
Just be careful putting it on and taking it off so you don’t rub any of the grafts. Also make sure you are cleansing the graft and donor areas, especially if you are sweating in the hat and not removing it much.
So great, i like it, can’t wait to grow!
It’s actually a great and useful piece of information. I am glad that you just shared this helpful information with us. Thanks for sharing.
People says that after hair transplant you will have a headache and some people even says that there is a possibility of brain cancer, can you kindly tell me if that is right?
You may experience a headache after your hair transplant which is quite normal and easily taken care of with Motrin, but hair transplantation is no way increases your chances of brain cancer or any other disease.

pls help me:-(
Hi, We do not recommend individual doctors or clinics. Perhaps one of our guests can suggest a clinic.
Very efficiently written. It will be useful to anybody who has had or is about to have a hair transplant, including me. Keep up the good work
Hi, i did the Hair transplant since 12 days ago and after the last washing the middle area of donor area became very red and itching too much.
i have a keloid history … so i start to use scar fix to put it down … is that normal and is scarfix ok for the same?
It is not abnormal to have some redness and itching in the donor area after 12 days. If you have had a strip method transplant then it is about time that the sutures or staples are removed from the donor area. After 10 or so days many people do experience some itching and irritation. Don’t be afraid to scrub the area with the pads of your fingers at this point. Generally the donor should be free of closure material between 10-14 days after the transplant. I would always do a test session for patients with a history a keloids prior to any hair transplant session. I have just about always experienced normal donor closures in people with a history of keloids. Scarfix or similar products certainly won’t hurt, vitamin E may be beneficial as well.
can i scrub my scalp after 15 days of hair transplant? thanks
After 2 weeks post-op there is little you can do to harm the transplanted areas. Normal scrubbing at this point will not affect your hair transplant.
thanks for your reply actually i did FUE one and after 28 days now still donor area itching and i noticed that red pimples comes and become bigger .. once i put scarfix the itching calm … thanx to advice and also can i add any sunblock after scarfix aas i noticed also it became worth when i am under SUN… appreciate your advice
Those red pimples may just be ingrown hairs. I’ll assume that when your stitches were removed your doctor thought all was healing well before you left the clinic. Sunblock is actually useful after a hair transplant. Nerves located in the donor and on top of your head needed to be transected during the procedure, that is why the areas may feel numb for a while. These nerves will eventually grow back and feeling will be normal. Nerves tell your brain that an area of your body is getting too hot, so using sunblock is advised when in the sun since you may not realize that your scalp is getting burned until normal feeling returns.
